Erinnerungsehrung für den Kongoeinsatz 1960/61

Friedrich Slamanig, stellvertretender Bereichsleiter der VÖP Bereichsgruppe Villach, lud am 19. Jänner eine kleine Runde zur Ehrung von Vizeleutnant i.R. Franz Hölzl in sein Stammlokal in Villach-Neulandskron ein. Nach der Begrüßung wurde der Ehrengast Franz Hölzl, Kraftfahrer vom 1. Sanitätskontingent im Kongoeinsatz 1960/61, mit einer Erinnerungsurkunde geehrt. Coronabedingt konnte die Ehrung leider erst zwei Jahre nach seinem 60. Jubiläumsjahr und 80. Geburtstag erfolgen.
Urkundenüberreichung durch Friedrich Slamanig und Günter Maurer Oberst i.R. an Kamerad Franz Hölzl
Die Urkunde wurde mit dem Bild eines Briefumschlags, den Kamerad Hölzl an seine Eltern schrieb verziert. Er war einst noch nicht 21 Jahre alt (damals noch nicht eigenberechtigt), als er sich um die Aufnahme in den Dienst bewarb. So mussten seine Eltern diesem Vorhaben erst zustimmen. Der Mutter kamen die Tränen. Der Vater gratulierte ihm dazu, so die Welt kennenzulernen.
Die von Johann Funk gestalteten Briefmarkenzusammendrucke der Urkunde
Als Besonderheit prangen auf der Urkunde personalisierte Briefmarken, die Kamerad Hölzl und seine Uniformabzeichen zeigen. Dazu berichtete er über die Gefangennahme durch selbsternannte kongolesische Militäreinheiten, bei denen die Belgier als einstige Besatzungsmacht verhasst waren: “Die Uniformen der Belgier waren nicht zuletzt durch die französischen Aufnäher denen der österreichischen UNO Einheit sehr ähnlich.“
So gelangte die österreichische Friedenstruppe in Gefangenschaft und durch die wirren Verhältnisse auch in Lebensgefahr. Erst nach der Befreiung durch ein nigerianisches UN-Bataillon konnte die Einheit ihre humanitäre Aufgabe übernehmen. Die vierte Briefmarke ist die Sondermarke 25 Jahre Austrian Peacekeepers. Die Urkunde selbst ist auch durch den Präsidenten der Vereinigung Österreichischer Peacekeeper, Mag. Günter Höfler, General i.R. unterzeichnet.
Die Ehrung und Übergabe der Urkunde und Überreichung eines ganzen Bogens der Briefmarkenzusammendrucke erfolgte durch Friedrich Slamanig und Oberst i.R. Günter Maurer. Danach dankte Slamanig mit kleinen Präsenten den Kameraden Günter Marek, Josef Fischer und Johann Funk für ihre Mithilfe und Unterstützung im letzten Jahr. Darauf folgte der gesellige Teil des Abends. Dafür hatte Kamerad Slamanig eine Brettljause organisiert. Die Hausherrin vom Cafe am Eck, Ulrike Zand sorgte für ein gelungenes Ambiente.
Kamerad Hölzl meinte dazu, das Essen damals war nicht so gut, mussten doch beide Köche der Einheit wegen Erkrankung an Malaria frühzeitig die Heimreise antreten. Ersatz für sie gab es keinen.
